Carolina Human Reinvestment and The Benefit Bank of SC awarded grant from Waccamaw Community Foundation
More Horry county organizations and agencies can connect and collaborate to more efficiently offer community services
Horry, SC–The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, through the Waccamaw Community Foundation, awarded a $10,000 grant to Carolina Human Reinvestment (CHR) and The Benefit Bank of SC (TBB-SC) to implement a more robust Charity Tracker network in the area. The system empowers community organizations to collaborate, share data and build relationships so they will have the information necessary to more efficiently deliver services to the community.
“We are pleased to partner with CHR and TBB-SC to bring Charity Tracker to non-profits and faith based agencies in Horry County. We are confident that this grant will help strengthen the community’s safety net and allow agencies to securely share valuable information. It will further encourage better accountability and efficiency which should lead to prevention of duplication of services thus saving the community’s resources and dollars”, said Jonathan P. Kresken, President of the Waccamaw Community Foundation.
Charity Trackeris a secure internet-based network which virtually links agencies, churches and organizations enabling them to systematically store and share information and data (like available resources, giving, people served, capacity, etc.) This service encourages collaboration and dramatically helps decrease duplication of services among care providers. Once fully implemented throughout SC, connected agencies in the Horry County can establish statewide connectivity to disaster preparedness information.
Once the system is ready, area organizations may apply to be a part of the network. “This grant allows for up to 100 people to be efficiently trained to utilize Charity Tracker as a tool to assist the agency’s in accomplishing their mission”, said Kresken. Participating organizations will provide input about what information is captured, so over a period of time, they can not only carry out services more effectively, but they will be able to accurately report how those services directly benefited the community.

It is an opportunity to improve the non-profit, faith-based organizations and agencies’ communication efforts and better understand our members’ needs in the community”, said Sam Cook, Executive Director of CHR and TBB-SC regional contact for Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.
