More than $20,000 awarded to 12 local nonprofits
MURRELLS INLET, SC: October 18, 2016 – Waccamaw Community Foundation, a grantmaking institution dedicated to serving Horry and Georgetown Counties, today announced funding of $20,367 to 12 local nonprofits in its 3rd Quarter Competitive Grant Cycle of 2016. It was also announced that grants across all WCF funds in the first half of 2016 surpassed $570,000.

Meet our 3rd Quarter grantees:
Birthright of Georgetown – $1,000 from the Waccamaw Community Trust in support of mentoring women and girls who face the difficulties of pregnancy and motherhood.
Children’s Recovery Center – $1,000 from the Waccamaw Community Trust in support of purchasing a therapy dog.
Girl Scouts of Eastern South Carolina – $1,867 from the Carver Educational Fund in support of membership for low-income girls from Horry and Georgetown Counties.
Grand Strand Hurricanes Wrestling Club – $1,000 from the Waccamaw Community Trust in support of equipment purchase for program participants in need.
Helping Hands of Georgetown – $1,000 from the Waccamaw Community Trust in support of job readiness training and placement for un/underemployed residents of Georgetown County.
Junior Achievement of South Carolina – $2,000 from the Carver Educational Fund in support of the Ourselves program for 8 first grade classes to teach the value of saving, giving and work.
National Inventors Hall of Fame – $2,500 from the Carver Educational Fund in support of Inventors Program Camp 2017 for 20 Horry County students from Title I schools.
New Directions of Horry County – $2,000 from the Waccamaw Community Trust in support of the Back to Work/Back to Life program.
Pawleys Island Festival of Music & Art – $2,500 from the Carver Educational Fund in support of a musical workshop for choral students from Georgetown Middle and High Schools.
Pee Dee Area Council – Boy Scouts of America – $2,000 from the Waccamaw Community Trust in support of fishing equipment to be given to all new Horry County Scouts.
South Carolina Lions Charitable Services – $1,000 from the Waccamaw Community Trust in support of providing vision surgery to those in need.
YMCA of Coastal Carolina – $2,500 from the Carver Educational Fund in support of promoting literacy competencies and a love of learning in children ages 5-12 years old.
Grants from Waccamaw Community Foundation’s competitive program are awarded on a quarterly basis. Grants from the Carver Educational Fund range from $500 to $5,000 to “programs and projects that further the cause of education.” The Waccamaw Community Trust Fund awards grants in the amount of $500 to $2,500 to a variety of local nonprofits for projects related to their missions.

Last year, Waccamaw Community Foundation awarded $2.6 million in grants through 496 awards. 55 percent of grants were made in Horry and Georgetown Counties.
