MR. CLYDE W. PORT
January 19, 1915 - December 18, 2007


Our Community has lost a dear friend...

Mr. Clyde W. Port, a founding member of the Waccamaw Community Foundation,
passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007.

Mr. Port moved to Myrtle Beach in 1975 and spent the next 32 years making our community a better place to live.  Some of his activities over the years include Board membership and Presidency of The United Way of Horry County, co-founder of Leadership Grand Strand, Presidency of the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, Presidency of the Dunes Property Owners Association, and service as the first Chairman of the Board of Visitors of the E. Craig Wall School of Business at Coastal Carolina University.

Mr. Port's legacy of civic and philanthropic contributions include being recognized as the first Director Emeritus of the Waccamaw Community Foundation, Honorary Life Membership by the United Way of H.C., Citizen of the Year and Life Membership by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and an Award for Community Service by the Grand Strand Sertoma Club.

Mr. Port, it was an honor and a privilige to have known you.  You were a faithful friend and an excellent colleague and we will forever be grateful to you for your untiring and unselfish efforts in helping to build a Community we're proud to call home.  The WCF Staff and Board of Directors


HEAVEN'S GAIN IS OUR LOSS...


In honor and memory of Mr. Port, friends, family and the Waccamaw Community Foundation have created a fund to recognize non-profit organizations in Horry and Georgetown Counties that have exemplified  vision, creativity, leadership and commitment in addressing critical community issues.

The first Clyde W. Port Catalyst Award will be given to an outstanding non-profit at the Waccamaw Community Foundation's Inaugural Awards Banquet, Thursday, June 5th at 6:00pm at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club.
