Waccamaw Community Foundation Announces Inaugural Grants from  Waccamaw Community Trust

Eight Area Non-Profits Receive More than $50,000

July 19, 2007 – Murrells Inlet, SC – An Advisory Committee appointed to oversee the Waccamaw Community Trust (WCT) recently announced an inaugural round of grants totaling $50,600. Late in 2005, the Waccamaw Community Foundation announced the creation of the Trust, a $1 million permanent endowment fund for the community. Managed by the Waccamaw Community Foundation, the WCT was designed to generate a minimum of $50,000 in annual grant dollars for the perpetual care of local charities. Donations were solicited via the Power of One Hour campaign, a public service campaign donated by Coastal Advertising and Marketing Professionals and various local media. Individuals were urged to donate at least one hour’s wages to build the Trust to its $1 million goal. Thanks to overwhelming community support, the goal was reached.
