Waccamaw Community Foundation Celebrates Philanthropy

Local Leaders to be Recognized at National Philanthropy Day Luncheon

Murrells Inlet, SC — During Community Foundation Week – Sunday, November 11 through Saturday, November 17 - Waccamaw Community Foundation (WCF) will join more than 700 community foundations across the country to celebrate charitable giving. On November 15, WCF is the presenting sponsor for the area’s inaugural National Philanthropy Day Luncheon. South Carolina’s Coastal Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals is hosting the event at Horry Georgetown Technical College in the Grand Strand Campus Conference Center. 2007 Coastal Philanthropy Awards will be presented to an Outstanding Philanthropist, an Outstanding Corporate Philanthropist and a Student Philanthropist. William D. [Danny] Nicholson II, Vice President of University Advancement at Coastal Carolina University, will give the keynote address. Registration will begin at 11:30 AM, and the luncheon will run from 11:45 AM to 1 PM.  Individual tickets are $30, and a table of eight is priced at $240. Established in 1999 with only $1,200, Waccamaw Community Foundation now manages more than $17 million in assets and is on the leading edge of an incredible growth trend for community foundations. With nationwide assets of nearly $45 billion, community foundations build and strengthen communities by making it possible for a wide range of donors to create permanent funds to meet critical needs. Last year, WCF approved almost $1 million in grants to support Horry and Georgetown Counties. Since its inception, WCF has made more than $5 million in grants to hundreds of non-profit organizations.

“Donors familiar with community foundations have discovered they are the perfect vehicle for directing their generosity. Not only do they offer the satisfaction of giving back to the community, they can help donors realize significant tax advantages,” said Jonathan Kresken, President of the Waccamaw Community Foundation. “We are excited about honoring some of the area’s most outstanding philanthropists at the upcoming Luncheon,” added Mr. Kresken. “We hope local leaders and interested parties will join us in celebrating philanthropy by recognizing these generous folks.”
