Clyde W. Port Catalyst Award Established by Waccamaw Community Foundation

Murrells Inlet, SC – The Clyde W. Port Catalyst Award is the latest philanthropic initiative of The Waccamaw Community Foundation. The WCF Board of Directors is excited to announce the creation of this award in honor and memory of Mr. Clyde W. Port, a founder and former Director Emeritus of the organization. It is designed to recognize non-profit organizations in Horry and Georgetown counties that exemplify vision, creativity, leadership and commitment in addressing critical community issues. A long time resident of Horry County, Mr. Port was the epitome of these characteristics. He is a founding member of the United Way of Horry County. He was also active in many vital business, charitable and civic organizations including Coastal Carolina University, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Strand Sertoma Club, Leadership Grand Strand and Dunes Golf & Beach Club, among a lot of others.

“The Clyde Port Catalyst Award will be presented to nonprofits that identify and respond effectively to an important present-day dilemma,” explains Jonathan P. Kresken, President of the Waccamaw Community Foundation. “We are looking for dynamic organizations that have demonstrated success in mobilizing their own resources and the resources of others to improve our community. That’s what Mr. Port did so well … He left this community quite a legacy, and we intend to honor that.”
