Mary K. Harlin Scholarship
Scholarship Fund Established for Saint Andrew Catholic School February 9, 2009, Murrells Inlet, SC – Waccamaw Community Foundation is pleased to announce that Mr. Curtis Harlin has established The Mary K. Harlin Scholarship Fund for Saint Andrew’s Catholic School. The Fund was established in memory of Mrs. Harlin, a chemist with a Masters Degree in government administration. In 1979, Mrs. Harlin was the first woman appointed as a District Director for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. A devout Catholic, she was passionate about young people and about education. Molly Halasz, Principal at St. Andrew Catholic School, said: “We are grateful for the long term benefits our students will derive from this scholarship fund. It is inspiring to know we have the confidence and support of such a distinguished family. Mary K. Harlin was an ardent supporter of Catholic education. This fund will serve as her legacy to future generations of St. Andrew Catholic students.” The Waccamaw Community Foundation serves as a leader, catalyst and resource for philanthropy and seeks to improve quality of life in the greater Waccamaw area. The organization strives to encourage private giving and maximize community resources to benefit diverse areas including youth, families, arts, community development and more.
