• Applicant must be a resident of Conway in Horry County, S.C.  An adult student returning to or already enrolled in higher education as a non-traditional student (approx. 25 yrs or older).
• Must be a single parent of a minor child, under the age of 18.
• Must have a 2.5 GPA.
• Must be willing to commit to community service hours or already volunteer for a local charity.
• Must be a non-user of tobacco products, alcohol and illicit drugs.
• Must submit (2) letters of reference from people in the community who are unrelated to the student and who know of the applicant's motivation to better him/herself and be successful in a job.
• Must be a full-time student.
• Must have financial need.

General Guidelines:
 

• Only one award per year.  May award up to $1,000.00 to the qualified student.
• Applicant may only receive award one time.
• Scholarship award will be directly applied to the student's Horry Georgetown Technical College account upon admission.

Requirements for the Final Selection:

• Applicant must submit a brief written description of the goals and expected benefits of the education experience simply answering these two questions:  #1 "how have your life experiences prepared you for this education?" and #2 "how will your education prepare you to meet your long range goals?"
• The applicant must be an individual with drive and determination who is intent of changing their condition in life for the betterment of themselves and for their children.

Nominations must be received through the Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

Scholarship deadline is July 1st, 2009.
