Neighbor to Neighbor

Neighbor to Neighbor Program Receives $10,000 Grant to Assist Seniors (Murrells Inlet, SC) The Waccamaw Community Foundation (WCF) is pleased to announce that the Neighbor to Neighbor Program, an initiative of Grace Ministries, has been awarded a $10,000 grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. WCF administers the private foundation’s donor-advised fund, a fund that distributes more than $50,000 every year to nonprofits throughout the Waccamaw Region. This particular grant will be used to facilitate non-medical support services for elderly and chronically ill individuals in Horry and Georgetown County. Grace Ministries is a geriatric care management service dedicated to helping senior citizens in Horry and Georgetown Counties. The Neighbor to Neighbor program, launched in May of 2008, was established to provide transportation to medical appointments and other services that keep seniors active and involved with the community. “In less than one year, with extremely limited resources, the Neighbor to Neighbor program has provided nearly 400 one-way medical transports to seniors and others suffering from chronic health problems,” says Jonathan Kresken, President of the WCF. “We are delighted to extend support to an initiative that has already made a huge difference to an underserved segment of our community.” Waccamaw Community Foundation wants individuals to know that they do not have to be a large foundation like Knight to make a difference to important causes. Regardless of income level or company size, individuals and businesses can set up a donor-advised fund and use it to support charitable causes. The Waccamaw Community Foundation is a local non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging the development of a community tradition of philanthropy.
