Nonprofits whose projects meet the above focus are encouraged to submit an application. The Conway Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program is designed to provide leadership skills to the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow. The program is offered to sophomore high school students throughout Horry County who demonstrate leadership qualities and good character. The Philanthropy Project was started by The Conway Chamber of Commerce through a grant from the Waccamaw Community Foundation with the assistance of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to introduce the youth of Horry County to the world of philanthropy. The Youth Leadership participants will be responsible for evaluations of Letters of Intent from qualified, tax-exempt agencies serving Horry County, review of proposals and presentations, selecting grant recipient(s), and presentation of $10,000 in grant monies. The grant award ceremony will be held May 18th, time and location to be announced once grant recipient(s) determined. Organizations who wish to submit Letters of Intent to the Youth Leadership committee can download The Philanthropy Project Application from the foundation’s website (www.waccamawcf.org) and follow the instructions.
