Our History

Looking Back
In the beginning, a small group, consisting of G. David Bishop and Jimmy Johnson, grew to include Helen Andrews, Jim Call, Paula L. Ellis, Erick Ficken, Michael C. Gerald, Laura Jackson Hoy, R.M. Lindsay III, Paul Malone, Clyde W. Port and George D. Taylor.  As early discussions began and continued, this group, which was united by a Community bond and shared sense of the need for a long-term solution to present and future Community issues, established The Waccamaw Community Foundation in 1997 as an affiliate of the Foundation For The Carolinas.  Through this affiliation, the Foundation gained confidence in its ability to manage the operational aspects of a Community Foundation and, in February of 1999 determined its future course by organizing as a corporation under the laws of the state of South Carolina.  The Waccamaw Community Foundation received 501(c)(3) status in April of 1999.
