The Clyde W. Port Catalyst Award recognizes non-profit organizations in Horry and Georgetown counties that have exemplified vision, creativity, leadership and commitment in addressing critical community issues.
The award, created in honor and memory of Clyde W. Port, was established by the Board of Directors of the Waccamaw Community Foundation in 2008. A longtime resident of Horry County, Mr. Port was a founding member of the Waccamaw Community Foundation and the United Way of Horry County. He was active in other charitable and civic organizations that include Coastal Carolina University, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, the Grand Strand Sertoma Club, Leadership Grand Strand and Dunes Golf & Beach Club, among many others.
The Clyde W. Port Catalyst Award is presented to non-profit organizations that identified and effectively responded to an important present-day dilemma, mobilizing their own resources and the resources of others to improve the community. The criteria for the award corresponds with the Waccamaw Community Foundation's belief that vision, innovation collaboration and cooperation are necessary ingredients to enhance the communities we call home.
A non-profit organization may nominate itself or an individual may nominate a non-profit organization. The format for the nomination should be a letter, no more than two pages in length, with specific information explaining the organization's efforts to make significant difference in our community. The nomination must include the organization's official name, the 501(c)3 tax identification number, address, telephone number and the name of a contact person at the organization. The name, address and telephone number of the person submitting the nomination must also be included. Please submit only one nomination.
