"Bags of Gold" were distributed at the banquet by an anonymous donor.
Each attendee was given 10 one dollar gold coins with the instruction to match this gift and give it to a favorite charity.
This was a huge success! Here are some of the comments received:
Liz, I enjoyed the banquet on Thursday. It was well planned. The food was good and the program very interesting. I thought the bags of gold was a great idea. I am adding my $10.00 to the bag I took and will challenge each board member of the Theatre of the Republic to do the same. This bag of gold will be given to the Theatre of the Republic's Endowment Fund at Waccamaw Community Foundation. Our next theatre board meeting is in July and I hope we will be a 100% board participant! I hope many non-profits benefit from this idea.
Hey Liz, my kids loved the bags of gold! We explained to them what we were supposed to do, and they took $10 of their own money (well, I had to loan my 4 yr old some), signed their names and decided they wanted to give it to our church. Marshall, my 8 yr. old, said they would “buy some good snacks with it.” So, it was fun watching them get excited about giving.
Dear Jonathan, I want to thank the Waccamaw Community Foundation, Board Members and Staff for a wonderful Awards and Appreciation Banquet! The Dunes Club did a great job hosting the event and the food was delicious; it was a great event. Please extend my thanks to Smith, Sapp, Bookhout, Crumpler & Calliham, CPA for making the evening possible by their gift. My work on the Advisory Committee has been very enjoyable and rewarding! I was touched by the dinner and gift, which you presented, for doing the work that I find to be so rewarding! This evening is Christian Surfers and I am looking forward to passing on my “Bags of Gold”. I am honored to be apart of the this wonderful Foundation!
Liz, enjoyed the awards event and the bag of gold was an inspired idea. I have mine and intend to bring it to you with an appropriate supplement. I should like to make an appointment with you and Mr. Kresken to discuss an endowment for the Waccamaw Art Guild.
Hi Liz, everyone from the Humane Society table had a really good time at the awards dinner. The food was very good and the presentations were great. We are very proud of Tina and thank you for recognizing her. Her talents over the years just grow and grow. The bags of gold on the tables was a great idea. Very creative! Our table raised $90.00, not counting the gold pieces. The animals are very grateful!! Keep up the good work. There should be more organizations like yours.
I thought the event was wonderful. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves, and you guys did a terrific job. I took the gold coins and matched it with $10 and donated it to the YMCA. This was a super idea and I know there will be an impact for the community. Thanks again for a terrific job and look forward to seeing you again soon!
I received two “bags of gold” the night of the awards banquet. Before leaving the event, two wonderful supporters came up to me at the Dunes Club and offered their support to STEP UP and donations! Thank you for such a wonderful evening.
I've already given my bag and matching gift to the Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club. What a great idea!
Hi Liz, Catherine Kresken matched the bag of gold and donated it to Horry County ACE the night of the event. It was great!
John Trudeau (outgoing chair of the Red Cross) called to say that at his last board meeting last night, he challenged his board members to match his “bag of gold” & along with Angela Nichols, ED & Nanci Conley, Director of Community Services (both of whom were at the June 5th event) they raised $265.00 for the Red Cross.
Hi Liz, the bags of gold were such a great idea! Miss Ruby’s Kids got one of the bags from our Board Vice Chair, Teresa Peterson, who attended the banquet with me. She doubled the money, so our gift was $30.00. What a treat. There was an extra bag on our table, so I took two. The first was matched and given to Carol Winans of Safe Families in Georgetown County. They have just secured an office space in Georgetown and need everything. She was delighted to receive the gift for the organization. The second was matched and given to Voices for Children – a nonprofit in Georgetown County that supports the Guardian Ad Litem group. I gave it to Anne Harris who is on the board of the organization for them to use in the literacy project they just launched. She was quite excited about the concept and appreciative of the gift. Additionally, the bags of gold project inspired me to make a donation to another nonprofit in Georgetown after reading a newspaper article featuring their work – Georgetown Boy’s Mentor Group. Their check was mailed, so I have no report from them.
Hi Liz, Hope that you are doing well! Shannon Camp asked me to send you a record of “Bags of Gold” received from your dinner event. We received 6 bags totalling $140 for the Grand Strand Miracle League. |
