(2009 Youth Philanthropy Participants)
The Conway Chamber of Commerce sponsors the 2010 Youth Leadership Program, chaired by Tina Dickinson of Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. The Youth Leadership program is designed to provide leadership skills to the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow. The program is offered to sophomore high school students throughout Horry County who demonstrate leadership qualities and good character. Students meet once a month January through May. Following a Teambuilding Seminar at Shoreline Behavioral Health Services in January, Youth Leadership 2010 participants will focus on philanthropy. The Conway Chamber of Commerce started The Philanthropy Project in 2009 through a grant from the Waccamaw Community Foundation with the assistance of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation to introduce the youth of Horry County to the world of philanthropy. Participants will be responsible for determining a focus or need in the area, requesting grant requirements from qualified 501(c)3 organizations serving Horry County, review of proposals and presentations, selecting grant recipient(s), and presentation of a total of $10,000.00 in grant monies. Youth Leadership 2010 participants include Dhruvkumar Patel and Cierra Todd, Aynor High School; Ericka Johnson and Ian Clardy, Carolina Forest High School; Brandon Frazier, Andrew Reeves and Christopher Sarvis, Conway High School; Robert McGougan and SaDee Wade, Green Sea Floyds High School; Jordyn Herring and Alston James, Loris High School; Travis Hawkins and Julianna Martel, Myrtle Beach High School; Michael Donahue and Sydney Orwig, North Myrtle Beach High School; Kellie Jackson and McKensie Rogers, Scholars Academy; Jon Morgan Kresken and Kelly Grace McDonnell, Socastee High School; Yessence Lewis and Haley Lundquist, St. James High School.
